Great Philly Mother’s Day Ideas

Plus: Does a rich family=a good boyfriend?

Dear Monica,
I’m a first-time dad and I want to make my wife feel special on Mother’s Day. Can you please help me out with ideas around Philly? — J.M.

Along with a day of family fun, here are a few suggestions around Philly that make for special Mother’s Day gifts. If she loves flowers, Ten Pennies, Blossom and Old City Flowers do beautiful work. For the mom with a sweet tooth send a dreamy chocolate package from Ro-Mar Chocolate Designs. She will have never seen or tasted anything like it! As far as pampering treatments, The Nail Bar is wonderful for a relaxing manicure/pedicure, or she can try an all-natural experience at Tierra Mia Organic Nail Spa. Rescue Rittenhouse Spa offers cutting-edge body and facial treatments that any woman would appreciate. For yoga lovers, a gift certificate to Yoga Child or Wake Up Yoga would be great coupled with yoga pants from Lululemon. Since moms are always looking for new recipes, a cooking class at the Restaurant School would be perfect for the whole family! The most important item to remember on Mother’s Day is a heartfelt card from you and the new baby. It’s the little things that count.

Hello, Monica!
I just started dating a guy who comes from a well-to-do family, but I don’t think that he is a go-getter. What should I do?
A.P.

The family that he comes from is not nearly as important as the type of person that he is. You are dating him, not his family. Realize that you are a new couple with a lot to learn about each other. Plenty of people appear low-key in a social environment and are quite different at work. If you see potential in him, give the relationship some time to develop. Ask yourself what you are looking for and what type of personality would best suit you. Are you drawn to someone laid back or someone who is more type A? If you are attracted to him, stay the course, and time will tell. A safety net from a family is always nice, but what is really important is what a couple achieves together.
