GREEN SCENE: Make Your Shore House Eco-Chic

Philadelphia Home editor Lauren McCutcheon can’t get enough of the summer-perfect patterns from this local green textile designer.

Cute, eco-friendly, and beach cottage-ready: We have fallen fast and hard for the soft goods (and eco-consciousness) of Chester County-based (and Welsh-born) textile designer Jenny Lee-Katz. Having honed her cheerfully graphic talents in Paris, London and Sydney, Jenny’s now taking inspiration from our very own shoreline — and making us super-excited to redecorate the shore house.

Her newest collection, “Glan y Môr” — Welsh for “seaside” — includes Orla Kiely-ish patterns of seagulls, coral-colored sea stars, cabana stripes, and polka dots with sea star centers. Each fabric-by-the-yard and pillow is available to order in linen, 100 percent organic denim, or a blend of hemp and cotton, while her amazing floor cloths are 100 percent organic canvas, with plant-based non-slip rug pad backing. And, with a chemical-free printing process that employs heat and pressure to seal on the pigment dyes, and everything made right here in PA, her work is super-sustainable — and utterly splurge worthy.
