Pulse: Out and About: Helium Takes Off
Helium Comedy Club, a $1 million, 240-seat venue along the artsy block of Sansom between 20th and 21st, is proving a dynamic addition to Center City’s otherwise lifeless comedy scene. Owners Marc and Jana Grossman and consultants Rich Miller (brother of TV’s Dennis) and Acme Comedy’s Louis Lee have transformed this ’90s jazz-and-comedy spot (formerly Curtains) into a swank club complete with lounge-act trimmings. The dark, low-ceilinged room with candlelit nooks edged by two bars is so impressive that it has piqued the interest of top-tier headliners like Frank Caliendo and Greg Proops — both boasting Comedy Central credits — elevating Helium’s comedic draw and making it a must-stop on the late-night bar scene. — Geordie Brackin
