The Good Life: Mother-and-Child Shops
Where Mother's Day is every day
I love my dear mamacita, more than any handmade card or yellow tulips or vintage charm for her gold bracelet could ever represent. Still, I'll bet the two of us are best off as mother-daughter, not co-workers — which is why, with Mother's Day this week, I can't help but notice all the moms and kids who are working in the same shops, at times behind the very same counter. There are equally adorable Jenny and mama
I love my dear mamacita, more than any handmade card or yellow tulips or vintage charm for her gold bracelet could ever represent. Still, I'll bet the two of us are best off as mother-daughter, not co-workers — which is why, with Mother's Day this week, I can't help but notice all the moms and kids who are working together in the same shops, at times behind the very same counter. There are equally adorable Jenny and mama Sandy Martin, laid-back connoisseurs of vintage and local design at Old City's Lost + Found. Ever-so-stylish Ellen and mother Joan Shepp collaboratively scan the globe for the next gotta-wear-it-to-Rouge fashions. And then there are mom Denise and son Matthew Izzo. Denise has this to say about working with her baby boy: “Honey, my job here is to be supportive, to be the home base, so Matthew can go out and be creative. I pick up all the little details – I just got finished vacuuming dust bunnies from underneath the shop's furniture. He brings in the business. I only wish my daughter were here, too. Stop in soon, sweetie!”
