GALAEI Throwing Open House

GALAEI, Philadelphia’s Queer Latin@ Social Justice organization, has new digs, and they’re rolling out the welcome mat next week for a community open house on Tuesday, August 25.

The organization, which aims “to serve as a bridge to historically separate communities of LGBT and Latinos,” recently moved to North Philadelphia at 149 West Susquehanna Avenue in order to serve a greater spectrum and variety of individuals, according to Executive Director Elicia Gonzales, who claims that the relocation “will allow…a more in-depth look into the needs and resources of our community.”

“From that need, we will undoubtedly work shoulder-to-shoulder with the community to create new programs, mobilize queer Latin@s, and increase visibility for our community, ” Gonzales wrote.

The Tuesday open house will feature tours, information on new programs, plus light refreshments and dancing. Guests will also learn about how GALAEI has “planned to continue with the advancement de nuestra familia.”

“We hope that people will be as excited about our new home as we have been so far,” said Gonzales. “We want people to feel at home, to feel like they are part of the GALAEI familia, and to learn more about how we are working for and in community.”

The open house starts at 5:30 pm on August 25 and is scheduled until 9 pm. For more information, visit their website.
