Quince Productions returns this August with the fifth annual GayFest, an entire series of LGBTQ-themed theatre, and this year features 30 performances that range from fully-staged productions to cabarets and one-night stands.

The festival, which runs August 7th through the 22nd at both Plays and Players Skinner Studio and Studio X, will present works from both local and nationally-recognized theater artists. Highlights from the festival include:

  • At The Flash: This one-man show is coming to Philly via Los Angeles and stars David Leeper who plays a host of characters throughout the evening. It’s about the re-opening of a shuttered gay bar, “The Flash,” and tells the stories of its past customers, from a closeted married man to a lesbian activist.
  • The Secretaries: A gang of murderous lesbian secretaries (!) initiates its newest member in the town of Big Bone. It’s written by The five Lesbian Brothers, including Tony-winner Lisa Kron.
  • From White Plains and Mother Tongue: These two works, directed by Quince Production’s Artistic Director Rich Rubin, will run in repertory at Plays and Players and are both Philadelphia premieres.
  • One Night Stands and Staged Readings: These one-time performances will light up the stage at Studio X. One highlight includes Working Title: LesbiHonest, a documentary play pulled from publications and social media.
