5 Gayborhood Bars with Snow Day Drink Specials


Baby, it’s cold outside and you need a drink. Here, with the help of Drink Philly and that ingenious #OpenInPHL hashtag on Twitter, we roundup of some of the Gayborhood bars with snow-day specials, early happy hours and drinks that taste best when there’s a chill in the air.

SNOW DAY SPECIALS: 

Caribou Cafe (1126 Walnut St.): Stop in for Olivier Desaintmartin’s hot wine with cinnamon, orange, lemon and brown sugar, a recipe, according to Drink in Philly, that was developed by a pharmacist in France’s Champagne region in 1945.

McGillin’s Olde Ale House (1310 Drury St.): They’ve got $3 pints of Saranac Spiced Ale, $5 Drury Sleigh Rides and $5 Irish Hot Apple Ciders.

OPA (1311 Sansom St.): On today’s menu, spiked hot chocolate, “warming dishes,” and, get this, a free glass of wine when you stop in with a retail receipt.

Strangelove’s (216 S. 11th St.): Happy hour kicked off a little earlier today, at 1 p.m.

Tabu Lounge and Sports Bar (200 S. 12th St.):  Warm up with $3 Vanilla Porter drafts and $5 Fireballs. Oh yea, it’s also Taco Tuesday, where you can score $2 and $3 soft-shell tacos.

THESE SCROOGES DON’T HAVE SPECIALS, BUT THEY’RE OPEN LIKE REGULAR: 

Woody’s (202 S. 13th St.): As usual, happy hour starts at 4 p.m.

KNOCK (225 S. 12th St.): Our 2013 Best of the Gayborhood “Best Day Drinking” spot opens at 4 p.m. Get $2 off all drinks from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

U Bar (1220 Locust): Happy hour starts at 4 p.m. at our pick for “Best Gayborhood Bar,” with $2 off drinks and half-priced beer.

Venture Inn (255 S. Camac St.): Starting at 4 p.m., you can get $3 domestics, $4 imports, a discount on well drinks and a half-price happy hour menu.
