GOOD CAUSE ALERT: Buy a Pie and Feed a Family on Thanksgiving Day

MANNA — the local nonprofit that prepares and delivers meals to patients with life-threatening diseases like cancer and HIV/AIDS — has rolled out its annual Pie in the Sky fundraiser (aka your opportunity to slack on your  holiday dessert-making and give to a good cause all at the same time.)

The project is similar to its soup campaign that happens around Super Bowl time, except the bounty is so much sweeter. The org is selling five seasonal pies: kosher apple, kosher pumpkin, pecan and sweet potato (all $25), and its decadent U.S. Airways Sky Pie, a cheesecake with caramel, chocolate and walnuts. (That one’s $35 and worth every calorie/cent.)

MANNA Events Manager Rob Nonemacker says the goal is to sell 8,000 pies to raise $200,000 for the company’s Thanksgiving Day meal production, where they cook and deliver dinner for a family of four.

To get your pie, visit MANNA’s website or call 215-496-2662. You’ve gotta hurry, they’re only taking orders till Fri.,  Nov. 22, and pick-up days are Nov. 26-27. More details here.
