WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Dueling Drag Brunches, Get Your Hair Did For Charity and More

SPOTLIGHT: What sounds better: helping others or helping yourself? It can be a tough question to answer, but what if I said you could do both at the same time? City of Hope is a nationally recognized cancer research hospital, which, for the tenth year, has made it on U.S. News & World Report‘s list of the top cancer care facilities in the U.S.. Though the facility is located in Duarte, Cali.,  it is reaching out to metropolises around the country — including Philadelphia — in an event called “HopeCuts,” a charitable opportunity that benefits its work to battle cancer, HIV/AIDS and diabetes.

It kicks off this Sunday and all you have to do to take part is get your hair did in one of Philadelphia’s 13 participating salons. The events and promotions in each salon will vary, but regardless, 100 percent of the proceeds will go to City of Hope. Guests will enjoy specially priced services, entertainment, refreshments, raffle prizes and more. You’ll look good, enjoy a fabulous salon trip and help a worthy cause. FRIDAY

SATURDAY:

• The Philadelphia Frontrunners will be doing a fun run to celebrate their 30th anniversary
• South Jersey Pride kicks off at Tabu with RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Monica Beverly Hillz (pictured)
• Summer seems to never want to end at Trestle Inn
• Break it down at iCandy on Studs and Spurs night with your best country dance moves. Don’t know how to line dance? Check out the free lessons at 7 p.m.
• What would a Saturday night be without a chance to dance? Tonight, the best place to do that is Tavern on Camac

SUNDAY:

• Fire & Ice wants you to Drag Yourself to Brunch for a brand new show, new food and (especially) bottomless Bloody Marys
• Uh-oh, Tabu is  kicking off a drag brunch of its own with the incomparable Brittany Lynn (pictured)
• Catch a screening of the recent QFest favorite FOUR at 7:50 at AMC Cherry Hill 30. Stick around afterward for the Q&A
• All aboard the Big Gay Boat Party
• A few LGBT-friendly theater troupes are throwing a Fringe party at Silk City
• It’s Shenanigans times in September. Head to the Blue Parrot Bar & Grille for a show, karaoke, and dinner
