WATCH: Interview with Rod from ‘Avenue Q’

Probing the closeted homosexual, staunchly Republican puppet from Mazeppa Productions' run of the Tony-winning musical.

Avenue Q's Rod and the guy who fists him during every show, Mike Dorsey.

This week I dropped by Christ Church Neighborhood House (CCNH) in Old City to chat with Rod, the closeted homo puppet in Mazeppa Productions‘ run of Avenue Q. Rod is voiced by talented young actor Mike Dorsey, who is also the puppeteer behind the show’s star, Princeton. He was a total sport, playing along as I probed poor, uptight Rod to come out of the closet. Throughout the course of our conversation, the puppet lied about his age, denied the fact that he was on Grinder last night (even though I have witnesses who tell me otherwise ) and tells me about how he accidentally stumbled into iCandy a few weeks ago. So did I finally break him down and get him to come out of the closet? Check out the video below to find out (and to hear him sing a little ditty from the show).

Avenue Q runs at the CCNH through July 27, with a special LGBT night happening on July 25. For tickets and time and date info, go here.
