WATCH: The Gay Short Film the Whole World’s Fawning Over

The Language of Love is about a young student who comes to terms with the fact that he's in love with his best friend — and the world is eating it up.

Since we’re in the heat of QFest season, I though it’d be fitting to share this short film out of Australia that isn’t playing on any Philly screens but is making quite an unexpected splash across the world.

Seventeen year old Kim Ho wrote and stars in The Language of Love, a short film produced by The Australian Theater For Young People that follows a gay school boy as he comes to grips with the fact that he’s in love with his best friend. The film was released online in April and has since generated over 139,000 views and has even been subtitled in Spanish and Chinese.

In an article on Gay Star News, Ho admits he had no idea the film would attract such attention, saying, “It’s hard for me to believe that The Language of Love has had such a widespread and positive reception. … I am humbled by the deeply personal responses we have had and immensely proud that the film has been treated with emotional maturity and respect.”
