Monday Kickstarter: Pride Celebrations Galore Around the World
Plus: Cazwell performs at Tabu, Putin signs anti-gay legislation into law, Anna Wintour and Gaga crawl out of the abyss.
Trolling the Web for the weekend’s LGBT headlines so you don’t have to.
PRIDE:
- WATCH: Lady
GodgaGaga returns from her hiatus to perform the gayest take yet on the National Anthem during New York City Pride. - Speaking of LGBT divas, Cher did a full interview with Out magazine preceding her NYC Pride performance of “Woman’s World” and a string of her greatest hits. See what she had to say about DOMA, Amanda Bynes and more.
- DOMA plaintiff (and Temple alumna) Edith Windsor served as grand marshal of Saturday’s NYC Pride parade.
- With all of the hub-bub in New York this weekend, it’s easy to forget that the U.S. isn’t the only country celebrating LGBT pride this month. London reportedly had its biggest Pride yet.
- … And let’s not forget Paris Pride, either.
INTERNATIONAL:
- Remember when G.W. called Vladmir Putin “the Devil”? Perhaps he wasn’t too far off the mark. Putin signed legislation into law this weekend that would make it illegal to encourage “non-traditional” sexual exploits amongst minors.
- Already showing its effects, the aforementioned legislation resulted in the arrest of several Pride protestors in St. Petersburg.
- While Putin has the world in a tizzy, newly-minted Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd endorsed gay marriage and suggested a national vote on the matter in his very first press conference.
- Jailed priest points to not-so-secret Vatican male prostitution circle. Yikes!
LOCAL:
- Haven’t you heard? Brian Sims’ in-House remarks following the DOMA and Prop. 8 rulings last week were shut down by fellow Pennsylvania lawmakers, who cited “God’s Law.”
- Cazwell, who we gabbed with last week, performed at Tabu Lounge & Sports Bar just after midnight on Saturday night.
U.S.:
- Virginia gubernatorial candidate thinks sodomy laws should be put back into place.
- In an effort to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is eager to brand male condoms as a more sexy option for safe sex.
- Alec Baldwin issues an apology following homophobic slurs slung at a Daily Mail reporter.
- Westboro Baptist Church isn’t too thrilled about how chummy the One Direction boys are with one another. The organization announced it will be protesting the boy band’s July 19 concert in Kansas City.
ENTERTAINMENT:
- Queen of Fashion Anna Wintour rises from the depths to fire off her first tweet ever, in celebration of the SCOTUS rulings on Wednesday.
- Greg Rikaart, aka Kevin Fisher for the five of you who still watch The Young and the Restless, came out of the closet this weekend by posting an oh-so-adorable photo of him with his boyfriend.
- WATCH: Gay Pride Disco Mass at St. Mark’s Church in the Bowery.
DECISION DAY AFTERMATH:
- Same-sex marriages commenced once more on Friday, ushering in a wave of gay nuptials over the weekend.
- Sponsors of gay-marriage ban in California file for a motion to halt California same-sex marriages, and quickly get shot down by Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.
