What’s New: HIV + AGING

The Elder Initiative is hosting a free event at William Way next week

Philly’s Elder Initiative has been tackling important issues in the LGBT community – everything from health and housing issues. But the latest event is free and deals with the impact of HIV on aging. Because the long-term effects of HIV and anti-retroviral medications, combined with the aging process, can be challenging, the group is hosting a special event on Sept. 18 (5:30 p.m.) at William Way to find out how best to deal with the effects.

Part of the LGBTEI Conversations program, “HIV + AGING: What’s New” will address the issues associated with being positive, and the best techniques available to improve and preserve both physical and emotional health and wellness.  Guests will have a chance to hear what three professionals have to say, as well as learn valuable facts about fitness, nutrition and cosmetic remedies for the effects of HIV and the medications being used to treat it.

John Del Rossi, the director of Rossi Wellness and an expert in the management of cosmetic treatment for HIV-related appearance issues, will be giving a presentation, along with Dr. Catherine Holdsworth, program director for the Immunodeficiency Center at Albert Einstein Medical Center, and Jo-Ellen Marks,  a certified physical fitness trainer at Optimal Sport Health Clubs.

There is no fee for this event. To register or receive information, please email your name and telephone number to info@lgbtei.org or call 267-546-3448.  Registration is limited and ends on Friday, Sept. 14.
