Big Gay Halloween Roundup

Get ready for a wicked weekend

We know you’ve been working on that costume since last year. Lucky for you, there’s no shortage of Halloween events throughout the region this week. And G Philly wants to make sure you’re prepared for the three-day fright fest in style. Please consider this your guide to the gayest of them all.

Starting Friday, October 29, Perez Hilton brings his “One Night In” series to Atlantic City’s House of Blues at the Showboat. Everyone from designer Richie Rich (he’s throwing a poolside party) and drag performer Joey Arias to comedians Margaret Cho and Sandra Bernhard will be in the “City by the Sea” for this weekend-long LGBT celebration.

Come midnight in Philly, indulge in a screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show complete with a live floor show from Mark Dahl and the guys at Traverse Arts Project (12 – 2 a.m.) at the First Unitarian Church (2125 Chestnut St.).

Finnegan’s Wake is also hosting a star-studded party of sorts on Saturday, October 30. Dress up as your favorite dead celeb and Walk the Dead Carpet (11 a.m. – 2 p.m.) with an after-party at Darling’s Diner at the Piazza at Schmidt’s. Or take a stroll to Rittenhouse Square for the annual Rittenhouse Row Halloween starting at 10 a.m., with events planned at The Shops at Liberty Place and around the park (stop by Stir after 4 p.m. for Halloween happy hour). Traverse Arts is also screening the classic vampire flick Nosferatu at 2 p.m. with live organ music at the First Unitarian Church (2125 Chestnut St.). And you can also catch The Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret Halloween Extravaganza with Johnny Showcase (9 p.m.) at MarBar West.

Gay bars around town are also hosting a cavalcade of costume parties which are perfect for an all-night pub crawl (scarier than usual), including the Booo Bash at Sisters, a superhero masquerade at Woody’s and The Little Monster’s Ball at Venture Inn hosted by Sandy Beach and DJ Salotta Tea. The best-dressed will get their hands on tons of cash prizes all night long before hitting Voyeur for plenty of after-hours antics. Gay gals will definitely be hitting up Morgan Levine’s always popular Stimulus Second Annual Mischief & Mayhem bash at Marathon Grill (19th and Market) starting at 10 p.m. East Passyunk is also celebrating Mischief Night at 9 p.m. with special events at select bars like Paradiso and South Philly Bar & Grill with drink specials and costume contests galore.

In New Hope, The Raven goes all out during its Greek-style Halloween party Thursday, October 28, at 10:30 p.m. with more gods, goddesses and monsters than you can shake an olive branch at. The Nevermore Hotel also hosts Hollywood Halloween on Saturday, October 30 (10 p.m.-2 a.m.) with what promises to attract some seriously glitzy goblins.

On Sunday, October 31, Henri David’s much-anticipated Halloween Ball takes over the Grand Ballroom at the Sheraton City Center Hotel starting at 9 p.m. (it’s where anyone in street clothes gets charged $25 more to revel in some of the most spectacular getups in town). Looking to show off your other talents? Scaryaoke at Bob & Barbara’s (9 p.m.) brings the ghouls to the mic. The Liberty City Drag Kings & Queens are also hosting a burlesque show at Tritone (9 p.m.). You can also catch the final performance of Ziggy Stardust at a costume party hosted by BCKSEET at South Street Creative Co-Op starting at 7 p.m. Don’t like dressing up? Ghosts got you scared? Get to Tabu for an evening of boo-ha-ha with the AAA List Halloween Show (7:30 and 9:30 p.m.). Think: short-form improv featuring funny Philly people Manny Perez, Bert Archer, Selena Evins and many others.
