The long-awaited Stock Rittenhouse opens at 5 p.m. today at 1935 Chestnut Street.
Chef-owner Tyler Akin and his crew have streamlined the former WokWorks space, still petite but larger than the original location on Girard Avenue, and switched up the ordering process for the new spot. Instead of table service, Stock’s second location will offer counter service; there’s seating, but not much more than at the original.
The main difference in Stock’s new location from the Fishtown flagship? Customers will order from what Akin calls a “modular menu” of soups, salads, cold noodle dishes, and sandwiches, including their beloved banh mi and the Philadelphia Sandwich, made with pulled pork, Chinese broccoli sautéed with garlic, and long hot peppers.
It’s not quite the build-your-own-bowl concept used by spots like Sweetgreen and Chipotle — “our cooks are executing dishes that have intention behind them,” Akin explained — but customizable in terms of proteins, vegetarian and vegan options, and spice level.
While Stock has never been a seasonal restaurant — “we cook from a tropical standpoint, so it’s always summer for us,” he said — the menu, in particular the cold noodle curries, will change up periodically, though the ordering format will remain the same.
One last difference at the Rittenhouse shop: unlike the original, it will have a phone, and customers will be able to place pickup orders by phone via an as-yet-to-be-released number starting next week. Guests can also place pickup and delivery orders through Caviar starting Saturday, September 1st.
Starting tomorrow, Stock Rittenhouse will be open from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily. Check out the menu below (click to embiggen).
