A group of Philly’s top chefs and Democratic state house and senate candidates are teaming up to help turn Pennsylvania blue in the next few elections. On the evening of Monday, September 17th, around 40 of the city’s best chefs, distillers, restaurateurs, and food artisans will take over the Franklin Institute for Blue Plate Special, a culinary celebration and fundraiser benefitting the PA Blue Victory Fund.
“We want to make an impact on local, state and congressional elections and ultimately in the 2020 presidential,” said Steve Poses, legendary Philly chef and PA Blue Victory Fund’s co-founder. “Essentially, we’re asking people to put their money where their mouths are.”
The fund seeks to boost voter turnout in November’s key midterm elections and support under-funded candidates and grassroots organizations in southeastern Pennsylvania through the next presidential election in 2020.
The evening includes food from 35 of the city’s best chefs and restaurants, drinks provided by Philadelphia Distilling and La Colombe, music, and dancing, plus a pep rally with the candidates. Honorary executive chef and former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell will be in charge of the slider station, and more chefs will be announced as the event draws closer.
A $150 general admission ticket to the Blue Plate Special gets you into the feast at 7:30, a $250 ticket gets you into a VIP reception at 6:30 p.m. and early access to the food, and a $500 ticket gets you access to a “VVIP” reception with the candidates at 6 p.m. in addition to the other perks.
