Sharpen Your Knives, Chefs: Chopped Is Casting in Philly

Think you've got what it takes to win $10,000?

Cooking competition reality shows are a double-edged sword. They might not judge the skills a chef needs to actually be successful in the world — how many times have you had to figure out how to fit gummi bears into a dish? — but if you play the game well, they can provide a great career springboard.

In fact, some of Philly’s favorite chefs, like Nick Elmi, Rich Landau, Jen Carroll (now in D.C.), and Jason Chichonski got a profile boost when they won on shows like Chopped and Top Chef. If you can take the heat, the rewards can be sweet.

Well, here’s your chance: Food Network’s cooking competition, Chopped, is casting in the northeast U.S. They’re looking for professional chefs, of course, but amateurs and teens are also encouraged to apply for special episodes. The winner of each episode gets $10,000, plus bragging rights and name recognition that could help that new restaurant or next project happen a little more easily.
