Where to Find the Best Apple Cider Donuts Around Philly
It's the season for fall's favorite sweet treat. Here are our picks for where to get them.
Apple picking might be done for the season, but that doesn’t mean the apple cider donuts stop. Read on for our list of some of the best places to stock up on this quintessentially autumn indulgence.
Highland Orchards, West Chester
Picking is done for the season at Highland, but you can still plan a trip to their bakery, which turns out delicious apple cider donuts all year long.
Mood’s Farm, Mullica Hill, NJ
Mood’s makes a delicious donut — keep an eye out for the big orange windmill on the Bridgeton Pike and you’re there. But be warned: they’re closed on Sundays, so plan your donut pilgrimage accordingly.
Frecon Farms, Boyertown
The Frecon family’s farmstand, bakery and hard cider tasting room is the perfect destination for a Berks County day trip. Grab a bag of donuts to fuel you through a session of apple picking at their secluded hillside orchard.
Johnson’s Corner Farm, Medford, NJ
In addition to a beautiful, well-stocked farm store whose produce selection rivals that of area supermarkets, Johnson’s Bakery turns out pies, muffins, and, of course, cider donuts all year round.
Weaver’s Orchard, Morgantown
Get your fill of crisp, fall air, way too many apples, and as many cider donuts as you can stand at this pick-your-own farm and year-round farmstand in southern Berks County.
Linvilla Orchards, Media
This sprawling farm and agritainment complex is Philly’s go-to spot for u-pick all season long — but it really shines in autumn, when a mountain of pumpkins take over and the fresh-pressed cider flows.
Hill Creek Farms, Mullica Hill, NJ
At Hill Creek, they mill their own cider at their own press one mile from the farm. And that cider goes into donuts that are made fresh at their bakery every day. Kids can run around on the playground while grownups keep warm around the farm’s cozy outdoor firepit.
Solebury Orchards, New Hope
Pick-your-own is winding down at this Bucks County farm, but you can still head to their farm market to stock up on already-picked apples and pears (and, of course, cider donuts).
Terhune Orchards, Princeton, NJ
This family-owned winery, farm, and bakery is the perfect place to sip a glass while the kids stop in to see Santa Claus, who’s hanging out at select times starting on December 2nd.
Shady Brook Farm, Yardley
Head to Shady Brook to pick up staples like milk in old-timey glass bottles and local wines — and stay for a sandwich and one (or three) apple cider donuts while you peruse their garden center or their holiday light show, which starts November 17th.
Springdale Farms, Cherry Hill, NJ
Cherry Hill’s only working farm is also the closest destination to Philly on our list — and their bakery doesn’t disappoint, with a wide range of pies and pastries and, of course, apple cider donuts.
Beiler’s Donuts, Philadelphia
If you can’t get out of the city but still need your cider donut fix, head to Reading Terminal Market, where Beiler’s keeps them in stock — both the classic cinnamon-sugar style and a glazed variety — all year long.
