Earlier this month, the news broke that Lo Spiedo, Vetri Family’s outpost at the Navy Yard, would be no more, and a new concept would take its place.

Today, Bar Amis opens in the former Navy Yard gatehouse at 4503 South Broad Street under the leadership of Amis executive chef Brad Spence.

Bar Amis offers the homestyle Italian cooking of its namesake in a more casual, approachable way: think dishes like toast with fresh ricotta and fig jam, old-school meatball sandwiches, kale Caesar salad, bucatini with almonds and peppers, and pork chop parmesan. Their weekday happy hour includes cocktails from Vetri Family beverage director Steve Wildy and remixed bar snacks like cacio e pepe fries.

While service starts today, Bar Amis will host a free grand opening block party on Wednesday, July 12th to celebrate. Everyone is invited for new bites, drinks, games and live music from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Bar Amis is the third iteration of the Amis branch of the Vetri Family; a second location of the trattoria opened in Westport, Connecticut earlier this year.
