This Weekend: Dog Days Of Summer Hot Dog Cook Off

Be a part of the search for the best dog in Philly.

You can sample some of the best hot dogs in Philly this weekend at the 4th annual Dog Days Of Summer Hot Dog Cook-Off this Saturday July 18th, at the Headhouse Square Shambles (2nd and Pine). Check out the city’s top tube-meat artists going “grill-to-grill” in a quest to find the top dog.

This line up promises some stiff competition, especially since there’s a $1,000 cash prize for the winning dog. Participating restaurants include BRU Craft & Wurst, Brauhaus Schmitz, Bridget Foy’s, Cavanaugh’s Headhouse, His & Hers Restaurant, Hungry Pigeon, Misconduct Tavern, South Bowl, Tap Room on 19th and Twisted Tail.

With 10 participants, it might be difficult to sample them all, but you’ll have to in order to best vote on the “Fan Favorite” hot dog. Wash down those dogs with craft brews from Victory Brewing and The Boston Beer Company and finish off your meal with treats from Mom Pops.

The grill-off runs from 1-4pm. You can buy tickets ahead of time, but they’ll also be available for general admission at the door. There’s no entry fee; you’re just buying food/drink tickets (1 ticket for a hot dog sample and 2 tickets for beers). 4 tickets are going for $10. If you’re a diehard hot dog kinda person consider becoming a VIP. VIP tickets are on sale now for $30. That ticket will get you in an hour early (at noon) with 20 food/drink tickets.

Both types of tickets are now available for purchase here. Funds raised will benefit the preservation of the historic Shambles, America’s oldest surviving marketplace.
