Ninkasi Beer Event Coming To Lucky’s Last Chance

You may have heard of the Hymn to Ninkasi, an ode to the revered Sumerian goddess of beer and one of the earliest known examples of word-based writing.

No? Well i you’re into craft beer, you may have heard of Ninkasi Brewing, the 30th biggest brewery in the U.S. (as of 2013), based in Eugene, OR. But unless you’re really into the scene, you’ve likely never tried its gold-medal-winning Bohemian Pilsner (Great American Beer Festival) or the Total Domination IPA, which Men’s Journal called one of the world’s 25 best beers in 2012.

Well, you may want to thank your favorite goddess that you live in such a beer-centric town because for the second time in its nine-year history, Ninkasi is sending special shipments into a market it doesn’t officially service. The first time it was New York. And this time it’s Philly.

“Philadelphia is a great city with a great craft beer culture,” says CEO and co-founder Nikos Ridge. “One of our goals at Ninkasi is to find exciting ways to engage the craft community throughout the United States, even though our distribution footprint is primarily focused in the western states.”

Ninkasi is partnering with Penn Distributors to send limited shipments throughout the year. You can expect to see some during Philly Beer Week, but if you can’t wait that long, you can also sample some on Tuesday night at Lucky’s Last Chance. Starting at 8pm, bartenders will pour drafts of Devil Went Down To Oregon imperial dark rye, Tricerahops DIPA, Believer double red, Quantum pale ale, Lux helles lager and Vanilla Oatis vanilla oatmeal stout.

They won’t be around often so drink them while you can.
