Beer Week Picks for the Weekend

Today is the kickoff of Philly Beer Week and it seems that this weekend is front loaded with events. Tickets remain to tonight’s Opening Tap.

But that’s not all that’s happening this weekend.  Prohibition Taproom is throwing a cool event. They’re cooking up 5o pounds of goat and pouring Founders’ coveted Kentucky Breakfast Stout and Bolt Cutter. It all starts at 3 p.m. Saturday.

In our Guide to Philly Beer Week we mention Saturday’s Varga Bar Pin Up Block Party. Not only will Varga be hosting a barbecue but CheU Noodle Bar will be hosting a Bing Bing pop-up on its sidewalk down the block. There will be steam filled buns filled with egg and cheese as well as pastrami egg and cheese.

If you commit to that neighborhood you can find some outdoor shade at Morriarty’s Quince Street Beer Garden.

Another Saturday event for your consideration, Northeast Philly’s the Grey Lodge is doing Morning Wood Beer Brunch. The brunch, which starts at 10 a.m. will include a multitude of wood-aged beers including Russian River’s 2013 Supplication. Check out the rest of the list here.

Sunday is the Manayunk Bike Race and if you’re looking to combine watching the event with beer, you’ll want to head to Old Eagle Tavern where the brewery that started in Manayunk, Yards will have all its beers discounted.
