Blockley Loses Liquor License, Will Close


On Thursday night, we learned that West Philadelphia bar/music venue The Blockley is closing at the end of December. Formerly the home of the Chestnut Cabaret, where bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana played before they made it big, the Blockley opened in 2009 and recently added a Jolly’s Piano Bar component.

The club says it “lost” its liquor license. Back in early November, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board told us that the Blockley was having problems with its license. State records show that those problems stem from alleged underage drinking incidents at the club.
