Celebrate Fergie’s 19th Birthday Tonight

Painting by Mark Campana

Fergie’s Pub, the popular Irish pub of Fergus Carey has been in business for nineteen years at 1214 Sansom Street. Celebrate with them tonight, starting at 7 p.m. and we’re sure, running long into the evening.

Here’s Fergie’s own post about the anniversary that he posted on Facebook. Those Irish, they have a way with words.

The Monday after Thanksgiving 1994 – my dad and I walked around Philly in the afternoon. He had surprised me on Thanksgiving by showing up to help out. His first time here. We were going to buy a shirt and a pair of trousers for me as all I owned were jeans & t-shirts. A hundred people stopped us on our jaunt inquiring about the new pub I was supposedly opening that night. We opened that night with a line around the block waiting to get in. I was drained, elated yet focused for the first time in my life. Come celebrate 19 years of Fergie’s Pub tonight with Wajih Abed, myself and our crew. Victor North will be playing jazz as he did on opening night and every anniversary since then. And thank you all.
