Dogfish Head Releases a Grateful Dead Beer

Dogfish Head Brewery is releasing a Grateful Dead beer. American Beauty, named for the Dead’s 1970 album of the same name. The beer attempts to capture the spirit of the band’s years of touring and recording.

Dogfish Head asked for suggestions on what a Grateful Dead beer would taste like and received 1,500 ingredient suggestions but organic granola stood out. Dogfish Head searched far and wide for the right granola before deciding on Grizzlies in Eugene, Ore. The mix gives the American Beauty beer a light almond taste with touches of orange-blossom honey.

The limited-release Imperial Pale Ale will be hitting local taps and shelves over the next few weeks.
