Now Closed: Italian Bistro On Broad Street

If you were planning on stopping by the Italian Bistro on Broad Street for some manicotti before the upcoming weekend’s showing of Tosca at the Academy of Music, you’ll have to get a table at Buca di Beppo instead. A tip came in this morning that the popular red gravy spot had closed on Sunday, with staff getting the bad news on Saturday.

The closure is confirmed by a brief message on Bistro’s website and voice-mail indicating that they intend to relocate within Center City. One source told Foobooz that the University of the Arts is taking over the space and turning it into a cafeteria and art studio, though a call to the University’s media relations department was not immediately returned.

UPDATE: A UArts spokesperson confirms that the new dining facility in Terra Hall will open in the fall and feature an all-you-can-eat dining plan to include everything from Swiss steak and other comfort food options in the Parkside Diner to legumes and other herbivore-friendly selections at Crunch. Go here for the complete rundown, but take note that the hall will not be open to the public.
