Block Parties At White Dog

The White Dog Cafe had a big block party for Bastille Day a couple of weeks ago but that was only the beginning. This Friday night is Noche Latina Block Party. August 10th brings Rum & Reggae: Caribbean themed street party to Sansom Street and Dance of the Ripe Tomatoes comes on Friday, September 7th.

Each block party costs $40 per person, including tax, gratuity, dinner and live entertainment, alcohol is not included.

On Friday, July 27 at 8 pm, the White Dog will host El Perro Blanco’s 16th Annual Noche Latina Block Party. Guests will enjoy a Latin-American Buffet served under tent top (rain or shine) and dancing under the stars to live Salsa and Merengue with the band Saborica.

Latin American Buffet selections will include: Pastel de Chiapas, layered casserole of tortillas, black beans, vegetables and cheese; Guajalote en Mole Teloloapense, braised turkey in red mole; Pescado de Costa Rica con Perejil y Tomates, tilapia roasted with parsley and tomatoes; Carne Asado, barbecued beef brisket; Ensalada de Arroz con Moyos y Atún de Ahi, saffron rice salad with ahi tuna; Tostones, fried plantains; Arroz con Chorizo y Frijoles Rojos, rice with chorizo and red beans; Ensalada Gazpacho, garden vegetables in spicy citrus dressing; Torta deChocolate, chocolate mocha cake layered with coconut-pecan filling; and Tres Dulce de Sandía, three melons in cinnamon syrup.

On Friday, August 10 at 8 pm, the White Dog will host Rum & Reggae: 21st Annual Caribbean Street Party. Guests will enjoy a Caribbean Buffet served under tent-top (rain or shine) and reggae rhythms performed by New York City’s Tribal Legacy. A cash bar will feature exotic rum cocktails. In the spirit of the occasion, suggested dress is tropical attire.

Caribbean Buffet selections include: Jamaican Curried Lamb Creole Chicken and Rice; Tilapia Broiled with Sweet Peppers, Cilantro and Lime; Cuban Ginger and Spice Roasted Pork; Coconut Rice with Jumbo Crab and Shrimp; Baked Yams with Coconut and Rum; Avocado, Cucumber and Tomato Salad with Spiced Peanuts; Calalou; Pan Cubano; Tropical Fruits Salad; and Key Lime Pie.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Drug Policy Alliance: Alternatives to Marijuana Prohibition and the Drug War. The Alliance is dedicated to advance those policies and attitudes that best reduce the harms of both drug misuse and drug prohibition, and to promote the sovereignty of individuals over their minds and bodies.

On Friday, September 7 at 6:30 pm, the White Dog will host Dance of the Ripe Tomatoes, an outdoor celebration of sustainable and humane farming benefiting the Philadelphia Fair Food Project. Guests will enjoy a sumptuous Farm Buffet along with some of the area’s best craft beers served under tent-top (rain or shine) and live music under the stars performed by Jim Fogarty and the ToneBenders.

Farm Buffet Dinner will feature a variety of dishes created from the harvest of local organic family farms which supply the White Dog including: Branchcreek, Buck Run, Green Meadow, Greensgrow, Greystone, Neptune, Meadow Run, Overbrook Farms and Farm Fresh for Chefs. A cash bar will offer brews from local craft breweries include Stoudt’s, Yards, Flying Fish, and Victory.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Philadelphia Fair Food Project, a program of the White Dog Community Enterprises which is dedicated to bringing produce and humanely-raised meats from family-owned area farms to the city.
