Weekend
Friday
Christmas comes early or is it late to the Grey Lodge in the Northeast. Anyway there’ll be no Santa crap but lots of good seasonal beer like a keg of Troegs’ Mad Elf and some Sierra Nevada Celebration.
It’s also First Friday which usually means rain so if you’re going out in Old City plan on ducking in a bar for a drink. We suggest National Mechanics and steal us a John Street pint glass, thanks.
Saturday
Drink your wheaties! That’s the plan at South Philadelphia Tap Room where they are hosting their wheat beer festival. $3 pints of local wheat beers from 2 PM.
If you’re feeling lucky and why wouldn’t you, it’s 7-7-07 then head to 707 where they’ll be kicking off their 707 Lounge concept with drink deals and late-night food. We once heard that funnel cake loses all its calories after 11!
Sunday
Explore the Schuylkill River Sunday with Hidden River Outfitters and a kayak tour. Learn some local history and we don’t mean back when Grape Street was Chemistry. The $50 tour includes instruction, equipment rental and a guided tour, capped off with lunch at the Manayunk Brewery & Restaurant.
Periphadelphia, a new blog focusing on events outside Center City tips us off to a Jam Session with Roger Prieto Quartet at Ortlieb’s Jazzhaus Sunday night. Go, you always say you should go to Ortlieb’s more anyway.
