4-Year-Old Brings Heroin to Daycare, Passes It Out Like Candy
A mother is under arrest after her 4-year-old daughter brought heroin to her daycare and passed it out to her classmates, Delaware State Police say.
Ashley R. Tull of Selbyville, Delaware, has been charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of maintaining a drug property.
Police say the family pet ruined Tull’s daughter’s backpack overnight, so Tull gave her backpack to her daughter. Inside, though, were 249 bags of heroin weighing 3.735 grams. At a per-gram price, that’s between $400 and $775 worth of heroin.
The 4-year-old gave out the bags to her classmates, thinking the bags of heroin were candy. Teachers quickly scooped up the bags and gave them to police, where they tested positive for heroin. Several children were transported to hospitals for observations but none suffered any ill effects from handling the unopened heroin packets.
Tull has two other children, an 11-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old boy, according to the state police. All three are staying with relatives. Tull was released on $6,000 bail and ordered to stay away from her children. The police say more charges may be forthcoming.
