Rittenhouse’s Food and Friends Market Burglarized — of $10 in Change

The Food and Friends Market on Spruce Street was broken into over the weekend, but the burglar got away with just about 10 bucks.

food-friends Police are looking for a man who broke into the Food and Friends Market at 20th and Spruce streets on Sunday morning. The burglar got away with about $10 in change.

The man broke through the door with a rock, police say, and entered the fancy food-and-beer market located near Rittenhouse Square. (If you want to be more specific, it’s located in the heart of the Spruce/Delancey/Pine area of downtown that often stands in for New York City in movies. And, in one particularly disappointing film, Washington D.C.) Despite having his pick of the fancy beers or Paul Newman cookies in the market, the burglar took just $10 in change from the cash register.

He fled east on Spruce Street. Here’s the police description:

Black male, 30-40 years-of-age, tall, thin build, bald head, goatee, wearing a light-colored short-sleeve shirt, and light colored ankle length pants. The offender fled on a men’s mountain bike with a reflector on the front neck of the bike, a reflector on the front wheel, and a U lock mounted under the seat on the bike frame.
