Ex-Police Officer Kills Man Attempting to Rob Her Mayfair Store

The knife-wielding robber was shot to death by a former police officer and Secret Service agent.

The owner of Stan’s Health Foods in Mayfair shot and killed a man attempting to rob her store, police say. News reports identified her as a former police officer in Philadelphia and Lower Makefield, Bucks County. The Lower Makefield chief says she left that job to become a Secret Service agent.

Sharon Doyle, 46, was confronted by a knife-wielding robber just after 5 p.m. He smashed her cash register on the ground and bent down to scoop up the bills, giving Doyle time to grab her revolver. The 47-year-old robber — who police say has a lengthy record for burglary — pointed 6-inch hunting knife at Doyle’s chest. She fired.

The robber was pronounced dead at Aria-Torresdale Hospital. Her parents told the Daily News it was the first time she fired her weapon outside of ballistics training.

“I don’t think it’s hit her yet,” her dad told the paper. “I think it’ll come back to her tonight, while she’s lying in bed.”
