Philadelphia Inmates to Grow Produce in Prison
A new program will create food for the prison kitchen and teach inmates job skills.
KYW 1060’s John McDevitt reports today on a new program in a Philadelphia correctional facility, where inmates will grow produce meant for the facility’s kitchen.
Currently, 200 fruit- and nut-bearing trees are being planted behind Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center, on State Road in Holmesburg — it’s next to Curran-Fromhold, the pink prison.
“Our clients will receive vocational training and certification in areas like landscaping and horticulture,” the mayor said at a groundbreaking ceremony, per KYW.
