Aqua America Makes $16.8 Million Acquisition

The Bryn Mawr-based water utility buys yet another company.

Aqua America has made another acquisition to expand its ever-growing customer base.

The Bryn Mawr, Pa.-based publicly traded water utility acquired Superior Water Company Inc. in southeastern Pennsylvania — adding 3,868 customers in Berks, Chester and Montgomery counties. The deal was approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission in September.

Aqua America seems committed to growing through acquisitions. It completed a whopping 16 purchases in 2015, adding 10,588 customers to its portfolio.

“Aqua has a long history of dedicated service to the residents of this region, and I know our newest customers will come to find what our current customers already know — we are committed to providing safe water, reliable service and infrastructure investments for our current customers and generations to come,” said Christopher Franklin, Aqua America president and CEO in a statement.

The company now serves nearly 3 million people in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Illinois, Texas, New Jersey, Indiana and Virginia.
