Trade speculation is running rampant, Mychal Kendricks has been absent from the team’s voluntary workouts and dots are being connected.

While his future in Philadelphia is very much uncertain — a report from Jason La Canfora today suggests he’s being shopped by the Eagles — the linebacker says that’s not why he’s been missing for the start of the offseason training program.

Kendricks says that he has been dealing with an illness in his immediate family, and feels he has to be close by in case he’s needed. Further, he wants to spend this time with his brother, Eric, as he goes through the pre-draft process.

“To be quite honest my family needs me right now,” he told Birds 24/7. “Being here with my family is what is important.

“I know the Philly people will understand that because nothing comes before family, especially in a time of need.”

The Eagles traded for Kiko Alonso this offseason and gave DeMeco Ryans a new deal, leading to questions about exactly how Kendricks fits in. The trade noise is growing louder as we get closer to the draft.

“I try not to worry about anything I can’t control,” said Kendricks when asked about the trade buzz. “Just worried about being in the present with my loved ones and right now, that’s what I’m focused on — that and being the best football player/linebacker in the upcoming 2015 season.”

Kendricks posted a picture of Costa Rica on Instagram around the time that most players were reporting to NovaCare, which raised plenty of questions.

“I’m not in Costa Rica or on vacation,” said the Fresno, CA native. “I’m home here holding it down with who comes first, and that’s family.

“I’m busting my [stones] and working my ass off prepping for this season. I’m working out with my brother as he gets ready for the draft. Once in a lifetime deal with this whole process and I want to be here for him as well, you know?

“I’m going to kick ass [in ’15]. I’ve never been more excited.”
