Making Sense Of the Eagles’ Inactives
The following Eagles are inactive for today’s game against the 49ers: QB Matt Barkley, WR Josh Huff, CB Jaylen Watkins, OL Jason Kelce, OL Kevin Graf, LB Mychal Kendricks and DL Taylor Hart.
There are two changes for the Eagles from a week ago. Matt Tobin is active for the first time all season and expected to start at left guard. Kelce (sports hernia) is sidelined. David Molk will get the start at center.
Here’s the first-team offensive line from left to right: Jason Peters, Tobin, Molk, Dennis Kelly and Todd Herremans. The only spot occupied by the same starter from last season is left tackle with Peters (Herremans has been a starter at right guard, but fills in at right tackle today).
The two backup linemen today are Andrew Gardner (tackle) and Wade Smith (guard/center).
Wolff was inactive last week against Washington with a knee issue, but he returns to the lineup today. Nate Allen is still expected to start alongside Malcolm Jenkins, but if Allen struggles, Wolff could see some snaps.
Look for Casey Matthews, Emmanuel Acho and Marcus Smith II to combine to replace Kendricks once again.
Chris Polk will again be the third running back behind LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles. The Eagles have five wide receivers active: Jeremy Maclin, Riley Cooper, Jordan Matthews, Brad Smith and Jeff Maehl. All four tight ends – Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, James Casey, Trey Burton – will dress.
Huff was listed as questionable, but he remains sidelined with a shoulder injury.
For the 49ers, safety Antoine Bethea is active. He had been listed as questionable with an ankle injury on Friday’s injury report. Right tackle Anthony Davis (hamstring) is also active.
