City Residents and Businesses Can Score Free Trees Through Sunday

Greening Philly one free tree at a time.

In light of what we learned this morning, this is, well, pretty freaking awesome: The Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation, the Fairmount Park Conservancy and Wells Fargo have teamed up to give away free trees to property owners as part of a citywide greening effort. The program, called TreePhilly, runs through Sunday.

NBC 10 reports:

The program, now in its second year, allows residential property owners this time around to request up to two trees and community groups and faith-based institutions can register for up to ten trees, according to organizers.

The spring tree list includes: Sweetbay Magnolia, Serviceberry, Pawpaw, American Plum, American Hornbeam, Flowering Dogwood, Eastern Redbud, Boxelder, Black Gum, and Tulip Tree.
