5 Healthy Things to Do in Philly This Weekend

From outdoor exercise to group workouts, check out these five great fitness and wellness events happening this weekend in Philly.

Happy almost fall, y’all! Whatever your plans are for this weekend, we hope you spend some time resetting for the season change, and focusing on your health and wellness. Whether you want to sweat it out in a boot camp, try a new yoga, or learn more about running, here are some intriguing options to get you started in the Philly area.

YOGA + PIZZA ON THE ROOFTOP. Truly two of our favorite things—combined! Teranga Yoga co-founder Joanna Da Sylva and Emmy Squared co-founder (and the group’s namesake) Emily Hyland, a longtime yoga teacher and practitioner, will be leading a fun and energetic vinyasa flow on the rooftop of Emmy Squared. Following, participants will join us for a half pizza and half salad Emmy Squared Special, a cocktail and social distanced mingling with us. The event starts at 10:30AM and the location is 632 S. 5th Street. The investment is $35, it’s first come, first served—to RSVP, people can email Emily@pizzalovesemily.com.

ALL WOMEN’S RUN PANEL. Kicking off at the end of this weekend for a weeklong event, the All Women’s Run Panel, created by run coach Vanessa Peralta-Mitchell, will include short sessions with a different female run expert (think Walesca Marmolejos of Latinas in Motion and run coach Amy O’Sullivan) each day leading up to a Q&A with 5 panelists next Saturday, September 26th at 10 a.m. The event is geared to sponsor funds for RRCA-run coach certification for five women of color. MIND, BODY, AND BUBBLY SUNDAY. Philly PR Girl’s annual  Mind, Body and Bubbly wellness event has been turned into a virtual “Self-Care Sunday” due to COVID-19 restrictions. There will be a Philly Power Yoga and Thrive Pilates yoga and meditation class to kick off the event, followed by a highlight of local vendors. It all takes place on Sunday, September 20th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and registration is free—sign up here

BOXERS’ TRAIL 5K. This year’s Boxers’ Trail 5k Run/Walk is going virtual! Residents can sign up to run or walk from September 19th to the 26th, and help support youth programming at Mander Playground in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood. All registered participants will receive a souvenir shirt. The Boxers Trail twists through forests and meadows, and along shady creeks; passes historic mansions and vibrant playgrounds. GREENS AND GRAINS. Check out the brand new location of local plant-based eatery Greens and Grains on 1700 Sansom Street. The menu includes Mediterranean-influenced dishes, açaí/pitaya bowls, savory salads, rejuvenating juices,  wraps and sandwiches, superfood smoothies, and more.
