This Is the Best Way to See the Holiday Lights in South Philly
Grab your bike and join the Holiday Lights Ride around South Philly on December 12th.
Let’s face it: Trying to sightsee around the holiday season can be, well, a lot. Between the large packs of locals and tourists clogging up the sidewalks or getting lost and Philly’s stop-and-go traffic, venturing around the city to check out all the spectacular holiday decor can feel like more of a hassle than fun. So if you’re looking for new ways to see the holiday lights in South Philly, we’ve got an idea for you.
On December 12th, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia will host their seventh annual Holiday Lights Ride. The seven-mile leisurely evening ride takes you through South Philly (and beyond) over the course of two hours. If you’ve been waiting to see The Miracle on South 13th Street, now is definitely your chance, as you’ll pass right through on the ride. Not only will you be less likely to get blocked in by cars, but you’ll also see a lot more than you would hoofing it on foot.
And for those of you who are thinking, A bike ride in the middle of winter? NOPE. we’d like to point out that this is a free event – and you can always bundle up, right? Plus, after the ride, you can warm up with food and spirits at Tattooed Mom. While joining the ride is free, if you donate $5 to the Coalition, you’ll be entered into their holiday bike raffle with a chance to win a 17-inch Gold Fuji Cambridge bike. Fancy!
Plus, for the truly holiday season obsessed, riders are encouraged to dress in costume and decorate their bicycles with the works (lights, sparkles, antlers, etc.). No bicycle? No problem! When you sign up for the ride, you’ll get a promo code for 50 percent off a walk-up Indego bike rental.
The outing begins at Performance Bicycle on 1300 South Christopher Columbus Blvd at 5:30 p.m. Register here to let them know you’re coming.
