This New Center City Indoor Pool Will Offer Lap Swimming Memberships
Fitness Alive Center City is slated to open in early 2019.
I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve thought about signing up for a triathlon, only to get scared off by the reality of training for the swim portion of the race. Running? Let me grab my sneakers. Biking? There are trails for that. But swimming? Sure, my neighborhood gym has a pool — but it’s outdoors (a.k.a. seasonal), and it’s expensive.
But YOU GUYS. YOU. GUYS. There’s a new aquatic facility coming to Center City, and they’re offering memberships just for swimming laps. (I know, I know, my fellow triathlete wannabes — I can’t believe it either.)
The facility will be the second outpost of Fitness Alive, the popular swim academy and personal training gym in South Philly. The original swim program was founded by Best of Philly-winning trainer Holly Waters, who has partnered with former Philadelphia magazine wellness editor Emily Leaman to expand the business.
Inside Fitness Alive Center City, members will have access to a four-lane, nearly-25-yards-long lap pool. There will also be strength equipment for personal training sessions, as well as swanky showers in the locker rooms and a family changing bathroom to accommodate those with little ones.
Fitness Alive plans to offer a packed small-group class schedule — including everything from Baby Bubbles to adult swim lessons — plus their Sweat & Splash aerobic classes and private and semi-private personal training sessions that incorporate exercises in the pool and on the deck. And as for those lap-swimming memberships, they’ll grant adult swimmers exclusive access to the lanes during early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
The new facility will be located at 1425 Arch Street. It’s currently slated to open in early 2019 — which sounds like perfect timing for training for the 2019 Women’s Philadelphia Triathlon. Who’s with us?
