Sure, the pools are closing, school is starting, and we’re officially nearing the end of summer (sob!). But that doesn’t mean that our love for fruity, frozen treats is wavering — or that we’re any less excited that SoBol University City is opening this week.
On August 23, the açaí and smoothie chain will be opening its second Philadelphia location after successfully launching in Rittenhouse earlier this year. SoBol University City — which, at 1,716 square feet, is more than twice the size of the Rittenhouse location — will have the same smoothies and açaí bowls on the menu, but it’ll also have a larger coffee menu, bagels, and other to-go snacks.
During the official opening day — which is noon on Thursday, August 23 — the store plans to hand out free full-size açaí bowls to the first 50 customers in line. On August 24, SoBol University City will open at its usual time, 7 a.m., and it will be handing out free toasted Waffatopia waffles and samples with the purchase of a bowl or smoothie in honor of National Waffle Day (who knew?!).
But that’s not all, friends. Since August 22 is UPenn’s official move-in day for new students, SoBol is planning to welcome the freshmen and transfers (and, well, anyone else who swings by) to University City with free açaí bowl samples.
“When we opened our Rittenhouse location, we did a big giveaway on our first day, and we wanted to do the same thing for University City students, professors and residents, as we welcome new customers into our store,” said SoBol Philly co-owner Dan Nestor, in a press release. “We’re so excited to open our second location, as our first one has been successful beyond our expectations, and we have grown to love the people of this city more and more every day.”
Swing by SoBol University City on August 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the free samples, or hit up the shop at noon on August 23 for a chance to score a free full-size bowl. SoBol University City is located at 3736 Spruce Street.
