Philadelphia is showing plant-based eaters some serious love next month with the inaugural Philly Vegan Restaurant Week. That means there will be many restaurants all over the city serving up many vegan dishes. (I know, I know, we can’t believe it either!)

The week is the brain child of a group of local vegan women — dubbed the Philly Vegan Lady Gang — which includes Breanne Needles, Carmella Lanni, Nicole Koedyker, LJ Steinig, Karen Belfi, and Marina Volpe. It’s their hope that this plant-based restaurant week will make vegan food more accessible for those looking to try it and celebrate the vegan community and, specifically, Philly’s flourishing vegan restaurant scene. Plus, a portion of the proceeds from the week will benefit the Peace Advocacy Network, a local grassroots organization that promotes veganism and sustainability.
So here’s the plan: From September 16 through 22, you’ll be able to dine out at vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants offering a three-course vegan menu, filled with meat- and dairy-free dishes. Typical vegan and vegan-friendly contenders like Charlie was a Sinner, Triangle Tavern, and Khyber Pass Pub will be offering up prix fixe menus ranging from $25 to $45, while other local restaurants, like Honest Tom’s Taco Shop, Yards Brewing Company, P.S. & Co. and Miss Rachel’s Pantry, will be offering a special menu item for Philly Vegan Restaurant Week.
While this new restaurant week is SUPER exciting for folks who choose to live their lives sans animal byproducts, it’s also a good opportunity for the food-curious inhabitants of this city to get out and explore the amazing vegan food scene in Philly. Ready to start planning your week? You can check out some of the menus and the list of 19 participating restaurants here.
