Drive from Philadelphia: 4 hours 30 minutes (1001 Lafayette Drive, Farmington)

If the goal is a winning combo of lots of activity paired with lots of ways to recover, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort has both in excess. Their fitness center keeps up a weekly schedule of classes, and there’s a whole host of outdoor activities — from a rope course to a climbing wall — to explore. If stress has become a constant companion in your life, The Lodge at Woodloch has a wellness resources up the wazoo, including special programming for your brain health. Included in this programming are art classes, forest bathing (a.k.a. contemplative walks through nature), meditation, labyrinth walking, float therapy, and more. There’s also a full spa at Woodloch, where you can get a hydro massage under the water wall (pictured above), facials, deep tissue massages, and more.
Drive from Philadelphia: 2 hours, 40 minutes (952 Bethany Turnpike, Honesdale)

If you’re looking for a retreat that’s more yoga and meditation, you’ll get both at Himalayan Institute. The resort hosts daily morning and evening yoga classes, and guests of the resort have access to the on-site meditation room and tea lounge. There’s also a PureRejuv Wellness Center which specializes in integrative medicine, from chiropractic care to therapeutic massages. The Wellness Center also hosts therapeutic retreats, which focus on relaxation, detoxification, and rejuvenation.

With the resort’s 30,000-square foot Springs Eternal Spa — which uses all natural spring water — you won’t be hurting for ways to relax at Omni Bedford Springs Resort. You can sign up for any of the spa services — from mud wraps to reiki healing — then chill out at the spa garden or next to the two-story indoor pool. At the fitness center, try yoga, pilates, or meditation classes — or take things outdoors for a meditative hike.
Drive from Philadelphia: 2 hours, 20 minutes (1 Skytop Lodge Road, Skytop)

Come for the gorgeous views of the Poconos, stay for the spa treatments at Skytop Lodge. First, you can work up a sweat at any of their daily fitness classes, which are taught every other hour, then you can cool off in the indoor pool in the winter, or the outdoor pool during the summer. At the spa, you’ll find massages, reiki healing, reflexology, crystal healing, facials and peals, manicures, pedicures, and more. Plus: it appears that SoulCycle has used this place as a retreat, giving it bonus points in our book.
