I’ll admit this right off the bat: I don’t really know what I’m doing when it comes to meditation. Do I find it relaxing? Yes. Do I leave it feeling better than before? Yes. Do I need an instructor to lead me through it? Oh, heck yes!

That’s why I’m personally excited that Fishtown has welcomed a brand-new meditation studio, Vitality Meditation, where you can not only get your “om” on, but you can also learn from the pros. There’s an “Intro to Meditation” class on the schedule, a 30-minute session during which you can learn about different styles of meditation, ask questions, and get your first taste of guided meditation.

If you’re an old pro, there’s also an entire class dedicated to breathing techniques to combat stress (um, yes please), as well as a Yoga Nidra class, during which “your body will become deeply relaxed” (um, double yes please). You can find a whole run-down of the class styles on Vitality Meditation’s website.

Vitality Meditation owner Anastasia Bailey wanted to open the shop to fill what she sees as a void of options for meditating in Philadelphia.

“Philadelphia booms with psychical boutique gyms/studios, so I wanted to create a safe and serene space for our community to get in touch with their mental space,” says Bailey. “Our mission is to give our members the renewed vitality that will help them engage mindfully and step in their power.”

While the studio is still somewhat under construction, Vitality celebrated a soft opening on November 6, and it is currently hosting classes. A drop-in class is $15, or you can buy the grand-opening promo package, which is five classes for $50. Take a peek inside the studio here, then go visit in person at 1856A Frankford Avenue.
