Guy, guys, guys: STOP what you’re doing and open your calendar to Sunday, October 9th. Now write down “Yards Brewing Company 5,000 Yards Dash,” because that, my friends, is what you will be doing that Sunday. The Great American Brewery Runs series just added the brand spankin’ new race — which starts and ends at Yards Brewing Company on Delaware Avenue — to the this year’s race roster.
Here’s the deal: The 5,000 Yards Dash — that’s 2.84 miles, for the mathematically challenged like myself — will take runners down the northbound lanes of Delaware Avenue, along the river, to Penn’s Landing (it’s the first race approved to run along Penn’s Landing, according to race organizers), where you’ll loop around and head back to the finish line at the brewery. Back at Yards, there will be a finish-line festival complete with live music, food trucks, and free beer (duh) for all runners over 21. You’ll also walk away with a snazzy commemorative glass and a coaster that comes complete with a bottle opener.
Best. Race. Ever. Right?
Registration for the race, which organizers tell us will probably be limited to around 1,500 participants, will open at 10 a.m. on April 5th. And what makes the new beer run even better is that it benefits Philly Achilles, a local nonprofit that pairs disabled athletes with running guides. You can find more info on the new race here.
