This here post has become a bit of a seasonal tradition, and for good reason: Who in the world doesn’t love a free workout?
The fall roster has a little bit of everything: yoga, spin, running, biking. Go ahead and bookmark this post so you have it for the next few months. Or, even better: Add all of these weekly workouts to your calendar right now. Then you have no excuse not to sweat.
What: Sunset & Sweaty Yoga with Philly Yoga Factory // It’s a pay-what-you-wish class with a suggested donation of $10, but, er, feel free to do with that information what you will.
Where: Bikram Yoga Philadelphia, 1520 Sansom Street, Center City.
When: Mondays from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m. Schedule is here.
What: Group Run in Valley Forge with Lululemon // Through the end of October, Lululemon KOP is hosting free weekly group runs in Valley Forge National Historical Park. You’ll get gorgeous scenery, a good group of running buddies, and killer hills. Sounds fun, right? Bonus: The second and fourth Tuesdays of the month will include a post-run happy hour at Shake Shack KOP.
Where: Meet at the park’s Visitor Center, at North Gulph Road and Valley Forge Road.
When: Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. through October 28th.
What: Yoga at the Art Museum // Wednesday night just so happens to be pay-what-you-wish night at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. So you can pay whatever you’d like (again, take that as you will) to get into the museum, and then once you’re inside the class is free. Dhyana Yoga runs the sessions.
Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Fairmount.
When: Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m.
What: Body Rocker Ride at Body Cycle Studio // This Rittenhouse-area spin studio hosts one free 45-minute class a week—no strings attached. It’s open to anyone, including regular clients, but space fills up fast, so you should sign up online in advance.
Where: 1923 Chestnut Street, Rittenhouse.
When: Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m. through the end of September. In October, the freebie class will move to Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. (Note: The class time rotates every so often to accommodate lots of schedules. Look for “Body Rocker Ride” on the schedule to be sure.)
What: November Project workout at Franklin Field // If you’re a regular Be Well reader, you’re more than familiar with our pals at the November Project. But for newbies, here’s what you need to know: The flash-mob-like fitness group descends on Penn’s Franklin Field every Friday morning and the Art Museum steps on Wednesday morning for free 40-ish-minute boot camp-style group workouts. A friend who’s attended the Friday sessions told me his legs always feel like Jell-O afterwards. Consider yourself warned!
Where: Penn’s Franklin Field, 235 South 33rd Street, West Philly.
When: Fridays at 6:25 a.m.
What: The Bagel Ride at Bicycle Therapy // The Grad Hospital bike shop organizes 40-mile group rides every Saturday morning that include a stop at a coffee shop in Bridgeport, where cyclists fuel up on bagels and donuts. Hence the name “The Bagel Ride.” It takes about three hours to complete and is open to cyclists who can keep up with a 15 miles-per-hour pace.
Where: Meet at the shop at 2211 South Street, Graduate Hospital.
When: Saturdays at 8:30 a.m.
What: Yoga on the Pier // Yup, the outdoor yoga class on Race Street Pier is sticking around through Daylight Saving Time in November, so you still have plenty of opportunities to get your downdog on in the shadow of the Ben Franklin Bridge.
Where: Race Street Pier, Columbus Boulevard and Race Street, Delaware Riverfront.
When: Sundays at 9:30 a.m. (There are free yoga classes every other day of the week, too, except Wednesday. The full schedule is here.)
