UPDATE: 5-Year-Old Croatian Cancer Patient at CHOP Has Died

Leukemia patient Nora Situm has passed away, the hospital says.

Nora Situm

According to a statement just posted on the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Facebook page, five-year-old Nora Situm has passed away. We wrote about Nora back in February after her supporters raised $600,000 for an experimental treatment at CHOP for her acute lymphoblastic leukemia. When the fees for the treatment seemed to go up inexplicably, just days before Nora was due to arrive in the U.S., her supporters began posting angry messages on CHOP’s Facebook page. The hospital later issued a statement clarifying its international medicine policies.

In the update just posted on Facebook, CHOP says, “We are very sorry for the loss of Nora Situm, and express our deepest sympathies to her parents, family, and many friends and supporters in Croatia. During the time Nora was in our care we were in awe of the tremendous courage and spirit displayed by her and her parents.” Read the full statement below.
