Taste: Chasing Mister Softee

For 50 years, Philly-born Mister Softee ice-cream trucks have been jingling along city streets. (Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do … ) This summer, local children (and their parents) will follow any of the 70 trucks in search of Softee’s signature soft-serve. The most popular treat: vanilla ice cream swirled high on a cake cone and coated with rainbow sprinkles. When the first Mister Softee truck debuted in 1956, a cone cost 10 cents. Today, a taste of summertime will set you back $1.50. —April White
