What to Drink: Louis Latour “1er Cru—La Grande Roche,” 2002; Montagny, Burgundy, F

This month's stunning PLCB Chairman’s Select has three things going for it.

This stunning wine has three things going for it: The white wines of Burgundy are revered icons in whose image every other chardonnay is made. Montagny is a village in the Côte Chalonnaise, a region known for delivering value. And Louis Latour consistently crafts excellent wine from this single vineyard. Another plus: It’s available at Pennsylvania state stores as a Chairman’s Select for $12.99, less than half the regular price. Understated at first, this wine initially shows a mineral backbone, but hints at riches to come. This beauty requires a nice dinner to reveal its voluptuous texture and spicy core of ripe fruit. Try it with garlic shrimp or pasta carbonara.
