Congratulations
Gerard & Elizabeth
Wedding Date: November 16, 2013 in Normandy Farm
How They Met: I, Liz, tagged along on my friend Meredith's grad school bar crawl in the city one night. There were students leaving for an abroad program in a few days, so this was their sendoff. Gerard, one of Meredith's classmates, stopped in to wish his fellow students well. We made eye contact but didn't speak until the group ended up at another bar. While playing a game of darts (I was horrible), I chatted with Gerard all night and thought "wow, if he has a girlfriend, she is one lucky lady".
We parted ways and about a month later, newly single, Gerard connected with me at Meredith's birthday party. He says that he had to see me again to make sure the connection we had when we first met was real, it was! A few dates later, I think we were both head over heels in love!
The Proposal: Gerard and I love to go on runs together, all over Philadelphia, it's a great way to see the City through the seasons.
One Saturday, Gerard suggested we go on a run over the Ben Franklin Bridge. It was one of our favorite routes.
He also mentioned earlier that week that this day of the run, June 2nd, was a special anniversary for us and we would discuss on the run, what that was (I had no clue and thought I was a bad girlfriend for not remembering).
It turns out that it was a trick question! The special anniversary ended up being the day Gerard proposed, atop the Ben Franklin Bridge with a beautiful city skyline behind us!
After lots of tears and hugs, we ran off the bridge down to Race St. Pier and, boom another surprise, we were greeted by both our families with balloons, flowers and champagne! Every time we cross the bridge we smile and remember the best day ever!!
