Fringe Benefits

Chances are, your single status isn’t the only thing you’ll be shedding on your Big Day. Most likely, a few tears will threaten to mess your perfectly painted lashes. We asked local experts for their top mascara picks and put them to the tears

Who?
Marla Malcolm Beck, CEO and founder of Bluemercury, with several locations including Philadelphia

What?
Trish McEvoy High Volume Waterproof Mascara in Jet Black, $26

Why?
“[It’s] a favorite we use on brides. The box even says ‘Stands up to water, time and tears’!”

Wear?
Stayed on during working out and tears (thanks, Visine!), but didn’t give me the thick, dramatic fringe I crave.

Who
Maria Ramagli, makeup artist and operations manager for M•A•C in King of Prussia

What?
M.A.C.’s Zoom Lash in Zoomblack, $11

Why?
“It’s water-resistant and a little bit softer.”

Wear?
This flaked a little during the day, but I didn’t have raccoon eyes after a super-sappy movie. While my lashes looked long, they lacked fullness.

Who?
Jesse Berryman, makeup artist at
Calista Grand
Salon & Spa in
West Chester

What?
Blinc’s Kiss Me mascara in black, $27

Why?
“It’s actually liquid vinyl that forms tubes around each lash. If [brides] cry or rub their eyes, one might slide off, but that’s better than a big, black raccoon. I’ve even used this on models we were shooting underwater.”

Wear?
This elongated and defined each lash but looked natural. It didn’t smear with all-day wear and rubbing, and even held up to the waterworks. Plus, each tube comes off easily with warm water and pressure.
